Business Card Tutorial - Business card design using templates
Although this is not the best software tutorial ever,
it should at least be able to help you create the business
card design you need. If you are not familiar with Illustrator,
try Photoshop
business card tutorial instead. |

| Step
1 - Create new file |
 |
File > New
Name: Any filename that you prefer.
Width: 3.5" and Height 2"
Color Mode: CMYK
If using a blank business card template
downloaded elsewhere, you should make sure that
the options in the red boxes are correct. Refer
below to check or modify.
File > Document Setup (Width & Height)
File > Document Color Mode (Color Mode) |

2 - Create guidelines |

To create a guideline, just
click and hold your mouse button over the ruler
then drag it the correct place. Refer to picture
on where to place guidelines.
Guidelines are locked by default.
To unlock, right click anywhere on the work space
and uncheck "Lock Guides" |

3 - Place the business card template into the work
space |
 |
File > Place
After you clicked on 'Place',
a new browse window should appear. You should
then browse to the folder where you save the business
card template file. Select the file and click
"Place". |

4 - Align the template into place |
 |
To align the business card
template into place, simply click and hold the
template then drag it into the black box. To make
sure the template is in place, just zoom in to
see if the whole template is inside the box. Just
repeat the click & drag process if the template
is not in place.
Remember to Save
your work frequently. |

5 - CMYK Color Mode within the 'Color' Tab |
 |
You must make sure that the correct Color
Mode is used within the 'Color'
Tab.
Click on the top right Arrow
(Highlighted in red) and make sure that CMYK
is checked. If not, just click on CMYK. |

6.1 - Insert neccesary details into your business
card design |

On the Tool Bar, Click on the
Type Tool (Highlighted in red)
and then click on the work space once. Start typing
in your details. Once you're done, click Selection
Tool (Black arrow pointer on the
top left of Tool Bar) and drag the text to
where you want it to be.
Simply repeat the steps to create
more text. |

6.2 - Change the font and it's size |
 |
Window > Type > Character
Use this tool to change the
font and it's size of the text. You'll also be
able to bold or italicise the text if the font
type have the written feature.
Try experimenting with other
settings to learn more. |

7 - Save your business card design in other file
format |

File > Save As
Select a format from the list
and hit Save.
To save in other format such
as JPEG, PSD, TIFF & etc, click on File >
Export. A window will appear. ake sure that Resolution
is HIGH 300DPI & CMYK Color Mode.
Assign printer
Contact them and have them tell you which format
they prefer or support.

8 - Create Outlines if files are saved in Illustrator

Select > All
This step is for selecting all
object and text within the work space.
Type > Create Outlines
This function is to make sure
that the font type used can be printed out correctly
if your assigned printer doesn't have the specific
font type you used. Also, do note that all the
text in the business card design cannot be edited/modified
once this function is used.
Repeat Step 7 to save
