Adobe Photoshop Business Card Tutorial - Design business card using templates
Do proceed to Step 1 and start designing your own business card. Just follow the step by step instructions below and you should be able to create your business card in a short while. Not familiar with Photoshop? try Illustrator business card tutorial instead.
Step 1 - Open the file

File > Open

Open the business card template you've downloaded.

Step 2.1 - Check the image color mode

Image > Mode > CMYK

Make sure that the "CMYK Color" is checked. Only click the option if it's not checked. Otherwise just ignore the option.

Step 2.2 - Make sure the template is in the correct resolution (300 pixel/inch)

Image > Image Size

The default Resolution must be 300 pixel/inch. Do not attempt to key in the figures yourself if the figures is lower than default. it will degrade the template. If the template is downloaded here, do contact me.

Step 3 - Start designing you own layout

This is the before and after design. Do make sure that no text or image should be outside the blue guideline/box. However, the background/template must be in it's original size that is 3.5" x 2". It should stay outside the guideline/box. So do not minimize it to fit into the guideline/box.

As a reminder, do save your work frequently to avoid redesigning due to power failure, OS failure and other various reason.

Step 4 - Duplicate a new file after you completed the design

Image > Duplicate

This step is to save a copy of the original work (Master file). With this file, you can make multiple different name, address & etc business card design.

On the Duplicate Image tab, replace the Free-Business-Card-Template(N) with any filename you desire and hit OK

Save and close the Master file & do not flatten it. Open the Master file anytime to change the name, address, logo & etc. Then duplicate a new file to be flatten. As a reminder again, do not flatten the Master File.

Step 5.1 - Flatten the file

Layer > Flatten Image

By flattening the image, the size of the Business Card design file will reduce. After flattening the file, you can no longer edit / alter the design which is great for sending the file to your assigned printer without having to worry about your business card design being modified.

Step 5.2 - Save the file and select your desired format

File > Save As

Select a file format from the drop down list and hit Save.
